My childhood friend L is a devout vegan, and has been for 15 years. While that is great for her and all…. I’m not, and she respects that, and we have some great conversations about ethics and animals.
Well she sent me an IM that basically asked me if I would take a challenge and eat vegan for 1 month. In my opinion, it is a bit too hasty to just wake up and be vegan one day. Putting aside the fact that most stuff isn’t vegan already, I wouldn’t know what ingredients to/not to look for.
However I did tell her I would think about doing it in the future, and I wanted to dabble and see what kind of foods a person like myself can eat when they are vegan besides vegetables! I almost never have to time to cook at home, usually stuff you can put together very fast, and at work it’s convenience meals.
Amy’s has a line of vegetarian and vegan frozen foods and I decided to try some vegan food! My first try was Amy’s Tamale Pie. It was not bad but it really was not that good. Mexican food needs cheese. It doesn’t need meat though I will give it that. It had a spicy tomato flavor that wasn’t bad per se, but it didn’t fully satisfy. Oh well. There were plenty of vegetables, and it was only 2 points for a pie. That is pretty amazing in itself and I may eat it as a snack in the future due to it’s point value.
Today I have an Amy’s vegan burrito in the freezer for me at work. Yayyyy. I don’t know but the Amy’s vegetarian burrito was great (rice beans and cheese, yum!) Who knows how this tasty one will be. Vegetables can be really freakin’ bland!
