To Veg or not to Veg
by Tiff on Apr.10, 2008, under Life
My childhood friend L is a devout vegan, and has been for 15 years. While that is great for her and all…. I’m not, and she respects that, and we have some great conversations about ethics and animals.
Well she sent me an IM that basically asked me if I would take a challenge and eat vegan for 1 month. In my opinion, it is a bit too hasty to just wake up and be vegan one day. Putting aside the fact that most stuff isn’t vegan already, I wouldn’t know what ingredients to/not to look for.
However I did tell her I would think about doing it in the future, and I wanted to dabble and see what kind of foods a person like myself can eat when they are vegan besides vegetables! I almost never have to time to cook at home, usually stuff you can put together very fast, and at work it’s convenience meals.
Amy’s has a line of vegetarian and vegan frozen foods and I decided to try some vegan food! My first try was Amy’s Tamale Pie. It was not bad but it really was not that good. Mexican food needs cheese. It doesn’t need meat though I will give it that. It had a spicy tomato flavor that wasn’t bad per se, but it didn’t fully satisfy. Oh well. There were plenty of vegetables, and it was only 2 points for a pie. That is pretty amazing in itself and I may eat it as a snack in the future due to it’s point value.
Today I have an Amy’s vegan burrito in the freezer for me at work. Yayyyy. I don’t know but the Amy’s vegetarian burrito was great (rice beans and cheese, yum!) Who knows how this tasty one will be. Vegetables can be really freakin’ bland!

Made Even
by Tiff on Apr.09, 2008, under Life
Well at Bay Meadows I almost made even. A, J and I each put in 20 dollars for betting and we bet on horses in 7 races before we got bored and left. At the end of the night we left with 42 bucks split between us. That is not bad at all! I realized after we were done betting, that in the program each horse had a color listed next to their name and other information. I was bummed, I should have been betting on pink all night dammit! Well I am going back this Friday for dollar days again so I will try out other strategies.
Since then, I have beaten Slingo Quest Hawaii, watched the movie “Dan in Real Life” (boring), kept up with my favorite shows Hell’s Kitchen & Big Brother, and working out every weekday morning! I am trying to get a routine going and so far it is going well.
Bay Meadows tonight

Well luckily now that work has not had me spinning in circles I have been much happier and have had a little more free time to relax (which has been very nice)! I wish that it was like this all the time, but responsibilities/amount of work change day to day at a start up.
Bay Meadows has some kind of dollar days every Friday in the summer starting today. Well, it would be the whole summer, but they are apparently closing down in 6 weeks for good, so it is actually dollar days for 6 weeks. My friend A apparently likes to go to the dollar days every year and has invited me so I accepted. I have never been to the track, despite it being literally a 3 minute drive from here, I am a big gambler in a casino but betting on a horse never excited me. Well I am going nonetheless. I want to go before it closes and I am pretty sure my strategy will be to bet on the horse with the cutest name.
